How to Make Birthday Stickers for a Friend on iPhone (a Pack Made for One Person)
Somebody's birthday is tomorrow, and the plan is the same as every year: a cake emoji, a party popper, "HBD!!" at 9 am. It is fine. It is also what everyone else in the chat will send. A small pack of stickers made for that person, their face in a party hat, their dog holding a cake, the thing they always say, arrives before the cake emoji and gets screenshotted. It takes about twenty minutes the night before. Do not aim for a greeting card. Aim for things the chat will keep using after the day is over.
- The person, celebrating. Their face, cartoon style, with a party hat, blowing out candles, holding a slice. Two or three variations.
- Their things. The dog, the plant, the coffee order, the team, the car that keeps breaking down. One sticker each. These are what the pack is really about.
- The number. A cake or a balloon with the age, if the age is a joke they are in on. If not, leave it out.
- Their phrase. The thing they say in every conversation, on a sticker. This is the one that gets used for the next year.
- Two generic ones in the same look, a cake and a party popper, so the pack works for the next birthday in the chat too.
Ask yourself whether they would want their face in a pack that everyone in the group can install. Usually yes. If in doubt, make the pack from their things and their phrase, and keep the face stickers as a private gift.
The built-in ways, and where each one stops
- Photo cutout. Open a photo of them, long-press until the subject lifts, tap Add Sticker. Real photo, background removed, straight into the iMessage sticker drawer. It is the right move for one great photo. It cannot add a party hat or a cake, and the real-photo look does not match anything else in a pack.
- Memoji stickers. If they have a Memoji, the sticker sheet includes a few celebratory poses. It only works if they look like their Memoji, and only in iMessage.
- Genmoji. On an iPhone with Apple Intelligence, type "cake with a corgi on top" in the emoji keyboard and generate one. iOS 27 lets it start from a photo and refine the result by describing a change. Making the pack in Pixmoji
Step 1: their face. Open Pixmoji, choose Image to Emoji, and pick a clear photo where they are facing the camera and smiling. Pixmoji redraws it as an emoji-style sticker with the background removed. Save it, then run it once or twice more with different photos for variety. You cannot add the party hat to a photo result, so the celebrating versions come from the next step.
Step 2: the scene stickers. Switch to Text to Emoji and describe each one in a sentence, with the same style words every time so the pack matches: "girl with curly hair in a party hat blowing out candles, cute cartoon sticker", "corgi wearing a birthday hat holding a slice of cake, cute cartoon sticker", "iced latte with a candle in it, cute cartoon sticker". Describe the person's hair, glasses, and the color they always wear; that is what makes a text result read as them. Generate, keep the good ones, rerun the rest with a tweak.
A note on words. Generated images are unreliable with text: a name or a number on a cake can come out misspelled. Keep it to a single large number, check it, and put names in the message instead of on the sticker.
Step 3: the pack. Every result has copy, save, and share buttons, plus Add to Pack. Add each keeper to a pack named after the person. Six to ten is right; more than that and the good ones get lost. Getting it into the chat at the right moment
- WhatsApp. Open the pack and tap Install Pack. It appears in the sticker tab of the keyboard. At midnight, send the face-in-a-party-hat sticker to the group. Anyone who taps it can add the whole pack, which is how the rest of the chat ends up using it all day.
